Constellation Energy's Projects & Services Group (CEPS) long considered renewable energy resources an important part of our product portfolio. Not only are they important for protecting the environment, improving our national energy security and reducing our dependency on foreign oil imports. They can also be effective solutions for reducing energy costs and managing risk. This is especially vital today, with the emphasis on renewable energy in the 2005 Energy Policy Act and the large number of renewable energy incentives available through a Federal and State programs.
CEPS has significant experience in a variety of renewable energy resources, including:
- Geothermal Heat Pumps: Geothermal heat pumps utilize the earth's energy
to heat and cool buildings and heat domestic
water, resulting in significant energy savings
compared to traditional air-source heat pumps
or standard air conditioning. CEPS was awarded
the Department of Energy's Technology Specific
Super Energy Savings Performance Contract for
Geothermal Heat Pumps, and has installed over
2,000 of these systems.
- Biomass Fuel: Biomass is a renewable energy resource derived from the
carbonaceous waste of various human and natural
activities. It is derived from numerous sources,
including landfill gas, digester gas, agricultural
crops, major parts of household waste and wood.
These waste products provide a cost effective
energy source to replace traditional fossil
fuel sources such as gas, oil and coal. CEPS
was awarded the Department of Energy's Technology
Specific Super Energy Savings Performance Contract
for Biomass and Alternative Methane Fuel Sources.
- Photovoltaic: Photovoltaic are made of semi-conducting materials and
directly convert sunlight into electricity.
They can be used for a variety of energy applications,
from lighting to providing power to the electrical
grid. CEPS has installed numerous photovoltaic
lighting systems for both indoor and outdoor
applications.
- Solar Heating: Solar heating systems collect solar energy and utilize
this renewable source for a variety of heating
applications such as water heating and space
heating. CEPS has installed several solar heating
systems, including domestic hot water and generator
housing.
- Daylighting: Daylighting uses the natural light from the sun to provide
the most economical and environmentally responsible
lighting technique. Either passive or active
daylighting systems can be used to bring the
light from the sun into a building. This significantly
reduces your lighting costs compared to even
the most efficient lighting systems. The majority
of people prefer natural light and thrive in
this environment. CEPS has installed numerous
daylighting systems for both office and industrial
applications.
In addition, we are tracking the renewable energy incentives available nationwide via Federal and State Programs and utilizing these resources to provide customers the most cost effective solutions.
