Project Description

In an effort to reduce operating costs and improve the learning environment for its students, the university needed to upgrade its energy systems in a way that that would not require an initial project investment.

Constellation Energy's Projects & Services (CEPS) conducted on-site inspections of Wheeling Jesuit’s 610,000-square feet, 26-building campus and was able to identify energy savings measures that met these criteria.

The project involved the installation of:

  • Energy-efficient lighting which also enhanced the classroom learning environment.
  • Variable speed drives on all air-handling units.
  • A new campus wide energy management and control system.
Financing Arrangements

Total project cost was $544,494. The projects were financed by CEPS and required no initial investment by Wheeling Jesuit University. Costs are covered through the substantial energy savings resulting from the projects, paid from savings over a five-year period.

    HIGHLIGHTS
  • $108, 836 annual cost savings
  • Paid from savings with a five-year simple payback
