Wheeling Jesuit University
Wheeling Jesuit University, founded in 1954, is a Catholic
university in the northern panhandle of West Virginia.
The university offers 30 majors in liberal arts and
sciences, nursing and allied health, and business and
pre-professional studies. Graduate programs include
accounting, applied theology, business administration,
nursing and physical therapy.
Wheeling Jesuit is home
to several national centers, including the Erma Ora
Byrd Classroom of the Future Program and the Robert
C. Byrd National Technology Transfer Center.
In an effort to reduce operating costs and improve the
learning environment for its students, the university
needed to upgrade its energy systems in a way that that
would not require an initial project investment.
Constellation Energy's Projects & Services (CEPS)
conducted on-site inspections of Wheeling Jesuit’s
610,000-square feet, 26-building campus and was able
to identify energy savings measures that met these criteria.
The project involved the installation of:
-
Energy-efficient lighting which also enhanced the
classroom learning environment.
-
Variable speed drives on all air-handling units.
-
A new campus wide energy management and control system.
Total project cost was $544,494. The projects were financed
by CEPS and required no initial investment by Wheeling
Jesuit University. Costs are covered through the substantial
energy savings resulting from the projects, paid from
savings over a five-year period.
